Kiersten Clark, a senior at Fauquier High School (FHS), has been recognized for her outstanding school spirit by many. Each year, when spirit week or sporting games roll around, Clark is ready to support her school with the best outfits.
Clark participates in every spirit week theme and comes well-prepared, knowing exactly what she’s wearing for each day. “I plan [spirit week outfits] three days before, then I order them and hope they come in on time…so I’ll have all the stuff,” Clark explained.
Coming to school with the most humorous and unique outfits, Clark’s goal is to be the most spirited at FHS. “I just come up with the most outlandish [and] crazy ideas that I don’t think anybody will be doing,” Clark stated. Her favorite theme so far has been ‘Merica Monday from last school year, when she dressed up as George Washington.
Even though some students don’t dress up for spirit week, that doesn’t stop Clark. She doesn’t let others discourage her from showing school spirit. “I don’t care [what others will think about me if I were the only one dressed up], it [might] ook like I care, but I don’t,” Clark expressed.
She prefers unique themes compared to classic ones. Clark said, “You can actually use your imagination and come up with stuff.”
Clark mentioned that one of the themes for this year’s FHS Homecoming spirit week is a good example of a basic theme. “I do not like ‘Country v. Country Club.’ That’s the one I don’t want to do,“ Clark added, “It’s just so bland and basic…because everyone in our school is already ‘country’ or ‘country club.’ [They] don’t even [have] to do [anything].”
Clark, also being a Zoo Captain, attends almost every football and volleyball game at FHS. Each home game has a different theme, and Clark goes all out for it. She believes themes affect the school spirit at sports games. Clark explained, “Some people are like, ‘Well, that [theme isn’t] fun. I’m not going to dress up, or I’m just not going to [go to the game].” Clark suggests themes may influence the number of participants at sporting events. Additionally, it may impact the energy and drive of the teams to win games.
With the football game against Kettle Run High School approaching, Clark is most excited for the theme planned for that game. “[Since I’m] a zoo captain… we’re dressing up as zookeepers, then the zoo will be the animals,” Clark stated.
Clark created a theme idea and hopes to incorporate it in a spirit week one day, “I came up with…opposition day.” Clark continued, “It could be emo versus preppy, [or] Batman [versus] Joker, because that’s a hero and villain or Drake and Kendrick.” Clark mentioned this idea to other zoo captains in charge of the themes, but they told her it was too broad.
Since Clark is a graduating senior this year (2025-2026), her outstanding school spirit will soon come to an end; yet, she will no doubt continue to spark more spirit in all her future endeavors. Clark will leave a great mark on FHS for the best spirit week and sporting event outfits.
