Fauquier High School (FHS) is excited to welcome a new English Language Learner (ELL) teacher Megan Kleinhans. She has taught a variety of different subjects at several different schools including Liberty High School and Brookpoint High School. Originally, she first started teaching German, but now she is part of many classrooms such as World History, Algebra and English as an ELL teacher.
Kleinhans has always had a love for teaching. Originally, she had a strong passion for journalism and put serious thought into pursuing that professionally. After much consideration, she decided to go into the educational field, attending Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She is looking forward to the school year ahead and is excited to see what FHS has to offer. “I get to go over all different kinds of subjects, so that makes it fun,” Kleinhans commented. Outside of school, her favorite hobbies include reading, hiking and cheering on her son at his baseball games.
Kleinhans first job as a German teacher was a very positive experience. She fell in love with the profession and that love has never died. “My favorite part of teaching is getting to be with students when they have that moment where they understand everything,” exclaimed Kleinhans. Kleinhans has many strengths”, but she also enjoys learning along the way. “The strength I have is understanding a concept, but a weakness is not always explaining it well.”
There are many things that make FHS unique from other schools she has taught at. “I think that it’s so unique to have different buildings, so you get to be inside sometimes and outside sometimes.” Having a larger campus is not the only new thing Kleinhans has experienced. The flow of FHS classrooms has been something she has had to observe and adjust too as well. “I’m new to using the computer…it’s an adjustment to my teaching style.” While there is a lot of excitement surrounding the new staff members at FHS this year, Kleinhan’s main focus is the students. She hopes to ensure the students “understand what we’re doing in class.”
Kleinhans is very excited for this year and she is looking forward to meeting new people. She is a great addition to the FHS community.
