Fauquier High School (FHS) is pleased to welcome a new addition to the 2025-2026 school year, Physical Education teacher, Sabrina Phillips. Though this is her first year at FHS, Phillips previously held other teaching positions. “I’ve been an instructional aid for the last five years over at Liberty High School (LHS) in their Special Education (SPED) department.” Currently at FHS, Phillips teaches ninth- and tenth-grade Physical Education, as well as Driver’s Education.
Phillips is also the head tennis coach at LHS. “This will be my sixth season there,” she explained. Phillips is very skilled at building and maintaining positive relationships with her students.
Outside of Phillips’ professional life, there are features of some interesting hobbies. Phillips is a travel enthusiast, tennis-playing machine who loves to cook. She is an outdoorsy person who likes to hike in her free time, though Phillips doesn’t get to it as often. In addition to hiking, Phillips loves to travel, especially to Alaska, where she has been three times.
“There’s a huge culture shock…the weather differences and the lighting…but it’s surreal.” Phillips highly recommends traveling to Alaska, saying, “It’s an incredible experience.”
Phillips is a local who grew up in the town of Bealton, Va. In fact, teaching was not Philip’s only job; she used to run the “Messick’s Farm Market” in Bealeton’s social media account, taking photos for them.
Phillips’s inspiration to become a teacher is her third-grade elementary teacher, Ms. Grinter, at Grace Miller Elementary School. “[Grinter] had a profound impact on me and really inspired me to get into education,” she shared.
Phillips was also influenced by her family members: “My mom’s always been in education to some extent. I had an aunt who was in education, so I had a lot of influence in the family.”
Phillips’ background working in a gym helped form the basis of her principles, “finding a passion in health and fitness and then mixing…with my passion for educating people and being able to work with younger kids.” Phillips’ love of teaching is influenced by her love of “getting to make relationships with [students] and getting to have an impact…at such an influential age.”
Phillips’ goals as a teacher are for students “to find something that they love that’s physically active…to inspire them to live an active lifestyle.” Sabrina Phillips will make a wonderful addition to Fauquier High School. Welcome aboard!
