On the first weekend in March, Fauquier High School (FHS) Distributive Education Club of America (DECA) students participated in the 2025 State Leadership Conference held at Va. Beach. After securing their spot for the State Leadership Conference at the District Leadership Conference back in Nov. of 2024, FHS students gave it their all at the next level of competition.
DECA is a marketing club offered across the nation, providing insight into a future career in business. Students go through multiple exams in their specific category, along with practicing roleplays that would be executed at the state level. After practicing for around three months, FHS students were ready to take on DECA states. This year, the conference was attended by many students from across the state. “This year, it was around 4,300 kids from all across Va. who placed at their districts near them. They come together and compete to see who can place at nationals,” explained senior and DECA president, Izzy Breakiron. After placing first in her category at the District Leadership Conference, Breakiron was excited to make it to states once again. Likewise, senior and vice president of finance, Meaghan Dysart-Moore placed top two in the entire state for her comprehensive test for business services marketing. “Overall I placed second out of 70 people… and I can move on to nationals,” stated Dysart-Moore. Both students have the opportunity to move on to nationals but it is undecided if they will be able to make it due to other conflicts.
