FHS is going to see a wave of creative art to supplement school spirit, as The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is painting new murals all around the school. “Currently, we are working on three,” says Dawn Brown, the sponsor of NAHS. “the principal asked us… to beautify the school…,” Brown added. The advisor wants more permanence with the paintings in school rather than continuously putting up and taking down artwork.
A featured mural design is a Falcon with the school’s quote, “ We believe, always believe.” Nora Rizzo, a freshman and an NAHS member at FHS, had the idea of what the design would look like. “I chose the Falcon because [the mural] is for the school…,” Rizzo says. “It’s a lot of fun,” she continued. The mural can be found in the art hallway.
Victoria Cunningham, a senior at FHS and a member of the NAHS, is also working on another mural that can be found in the main building’s science hallway. “I just started painting it a few days ago,” says Cunningham. “…And I’m staying after school…to continue [painting the mural],” she continued. Besides the principal’s request to paint murals throughout the main building, Cunningham was inspired to create this mural because FHS “[doesn’t] have many school-spirited murals.”
Virginia Brodsky, a sophomore at FHS and another member of the NAHS, is finishing the ‘wings’ murals around the art hallway. “I’m doing it by myself. The painting was already halfway done…and the art teacher asked me to finish the other half,” Brodsky says. Brodsky tries to follow the original design it had years ago, and according to her, it is fun to do.
FHS is going to see a splash of life with the murals, adding flare to some of the white walls with school-spirited paintings. The NAHS members are dedicated to getting all three murals finished within the school year.
