Nurse Teresa Tate has been the nurse at Fauquier High School (FHS) for eight years. She dedicates her life to taking care of students and brings her fun personality to even the most unfortunate situations.
Being a school nurse is not for the faint of heart, but Tate manages to take care of all students who need her while remaining calm and compassionate. She does her best to provide what students need, no matter what. Tate loves caring for students, but her favorite part of being a nurse is getting to know the students and forming relationships with them. “It’s nice to be able to talk with students and take care of the different things and different needs that they have…I think it helps keep me a little grounded,” Tate stated.
Tate got into nursing in high school. She grew up in N.C. and was introduced to nursing by her homeroom teacher. She has had many roles in different branches of the nursing field, which is part of what makes her so knowledgeable in her current position. She shared, “I’ve done cardiac nursing, I’ve done pediatric nursing, I have worked in family medicine and I worked in the hospital. Each of them is totally different… And none of it is easy. Every branch has their own niche of what you’ve gotta learn.” Tate uses what she’s learned from her past experiences to better help the student body of FHS.
Nurse Tate works extremely hard and aims to keep all students healthy and happy. She also does her best to have a balance between being professional and having fun. She loves letting her sarcasm and humor shine through and having “casual conversations” with students. She does all she can to make people’s days, stating, “Sometimes I don’t have a lot to offer, but hopefully, at least it’s a smile.”
