With a new bandana every day, Junior Maddie Rogers styles herself based on mood, music and personal choice. Standing out, Rogers wears uniquely designed headbands that match her outfit day by day. From normal every-day trends to a more unique style, Rogers’ fashion fits right in between.
The clothing trends at FHS aren’t necessarily boring to Rogers. “The fashion choices aren’t basic or overused, like when I see people wearing flare leggings and panda dunks every day, I find that basic, but then I see people wearing vintage clothing, and I find that very interesting,” she says. Where others wear Nike or UGG, Rogers wears platform Converse with cute embroidery of flowers, or even just plain platform versions of the sneaker. Rogers has been known to wear music artist merchandise such as Sabrina Carpenter and others that match her theme for the day.
Rogers creates her iconic outfits by listening to music in the mornings, whether it’s SZA’s “ctrl” album or 90’s music artist, Aaliyah.“I’d say very upbeat songs to jam out to while picking an outfit,” Rogers says. Music helps her create her outfits and she still finds a way to make a bandana fit.
The option of thrifting is there, however, Rogers doesn’t prefer it. “I don’t thrift because I don’t know any place to thrift, but I would love to,” Rogers says. Although Rogers doesn’t thrift, she enjoys shopping in-person as Ross, TJ-Maxx, Walmart and Target. “Walmart is starting to have really good clothing for really cheap,” says Rogers.
Media such as TikTok or TV show characters influenced Rogers to start wearing bandanas. “I would see characters or people with stylish hats or bandanas, and I was really interested in seeing what I would look like once I got comfortable wearing bandanas, so I bought more, and now I can never leave the house without wearing one,” Rogers mentions.
Rogers goes for the indie aesthetic, which often includes vintage and artistic values. “I like indie fashion because it’s a style that is calm and easy. For me, making an indie outfit is simple because it’s sweatshirts or sweaters, mom jeans, and baggy clothing,” noted Rogers.
As Rogers states, most call her a “Bandana Girl” but her outfits are more than just the creative headpiece. It’s the clothes and shoes that make it all come together, and that’s what makes Roger’s style unique.
