Laurel Ridge Community College has achieved the top ranking in Va. for student success for four consecutive years. This recognition is based on factors such as the number of students earning degrees and certificates, as well as their course completion rates with strong grades. The college excels in various areas contributing to its success, including comprehensive student services, effective academic advising and exceptional faculty support.
Laurel Ridge offers many opportunities for students at Fauquier High School (FHS). Students in various classes can dual enroll to get college credits by just attending a class. Brenda Sheridan is FHS’s Laurel Ridge liaison, and she explains, “Laurel Ridge allows FHS students an easy way to get credit, and it’s [quarter the price].” Students who dual enroll get a jump ahead against students who choose not to.
One standout aspect of Laurel Ridge is its leadership in helping FHS students earn degrees or credentials before graduation, surpassing other Virginia Community College System (VCCS) institutions. This motivated approach fosters educational advancement at an early stage, enhancing the overall success rate of its students. And since the campus is smaller, students at Laurel Ridge get more one-on-one time to improve their skill set. “The classes are smaller so teachers can pay attention to their students and help answer problems more [efficiently],” Sheridan states.
The college’s high ranking has positive implications, including increased state funding that supports its programs and initiatives. It reflects the educational quality and the impact of faculty and staff, highlighting the importance of student outcomes as measured by state standards within the broader landscape of Virginia’s community colleges.
The experience at Laurel Ridge Community College is overwhelmingly positive. It is characterized by a supportive atmosphere and active campus involvement. There are many opportunities for student leadership and participation, making it the go-to choice for high school graduates.
