Gear up to witness a talented group of pilots, wing walkers, professional skydivers and ground crew that make up an amazing airshow. The Flying Circus Airshow, located in Bealeton, Va., is an exhilarating place to visit for a fun activity. Offering memorable souvenirs in the gift shop and flavorful food at Fifi’s Cafe, visitors enjoy every moment of the event.
Gates open at 11 a.m., and the show begins at 2:30 p.m. and ends around 4 p.m. The airshow offers a variety of activities, including biplane rides, which can be enjoyed before and after the show. All rides are equipped with updated safety measures, including recent examinations of the flight equipment, as well as safety features for the rider. Visitors are briefed on safety tactics before entering the plane.
Biplanes from WWII soar through the sky, offering rides to guests at an additional cost of $135-200. Rides range from standard sightseeing to aerobatics. The aerobatic ride consists of barrel turns, hammerhead spins, loops and most notably free falls. For standard rides, guests can glide in the sky individually or opt for a double ride, suitable for two people.
For those who opt out of being air-bound, visitors are welcome to arrive at the main attraction at 2 p.m. The Black Baron announces the events as the show continues, acting as the comedic relief, even doing stunts. The airshow features about nine different segments, starting with a professional skydiver gliding down from heights of 3500 feet with an American flag attached to the diver, waving to the audience. During this, viewers remove their caps and place their hands over their hearts to observe the national anthem. Throughout the event, pilots demonstrate different activities, such as balloon popping, flour bombing the barron, ribbon cutting, mail bag pick up and drop off and lastly, final formation.
One of many fascinating acts to watch is the intense acrobatic stunts performed by a professional and well-trained pilot, Bob “Rooster” Schmidle. Flying at intense speeds, Schmidle demonstrates intense acro stunts, leaving trails of smoke in the sky. A perilous and unique stunt is displayed; wing walking is a significant part of the show. This stunt features an individual positioned on the outside of the plane mid-flight, even hanging off and on top of the wing without a harness.
The Flying Circus Airshow is well worth the visit. With its incredible stunts performed in the sky and on the ground, dedicated pilots and staff are very appreciated.
