“Thirsty Thursday” sign beckons to students from outside of the library at Fauquier High School.

“Thirsty Thursday” occurs every Thursday in the FHS Library. The librarians serve hot chocolate for students and staff for only a dollar. The program began in early October, and the librarians stated that they are looking forward to continuing it for as long as they can. Once the weather gets warmer, “Thirsty Thursday” will switch from serving hot chocolate to lemonade.

The idea for “Thirsty Thursday” came “from the students,” according to Assistant Librarian Teresa Camarca. It was a suggestion from the Student Council Association (SCA), and, because of it, Thursdays are now a busy day for the librarians. Issac said, “They [students] do look forward to it. We frequently get asked about it every day because they forget it’s only on Thursdays.”

Because of the popularity of the event, librarian Rebecca Webster added, “We are…thinking about…adding another extra day, but, for right now, it’s just one day a week.”

Freshman Lesly Serrano is a regular attendee of “Thirsty Thursday.” “I try to attend it every Thursday,” said Serrano, “I like going because it’s perfect for the cold weather and I think it tastes very good. I also love to participate because it funds the school.” Serrano continued, saying, “It’s something I look forward to every week and it just brings my mood up.”

Rebecca Webster said the money goes to buying “supplies for our crafts or new books…also if there’s something big, like new seats for the library….and maybe eventually to buy a 3D printer.”
