Pro Con: Are Paper Assignments Better?

Are paper assignments better than online assignments? Neurosciencenews.com has made it known that studies have shown that people are more productive and retain information better when things are written down on a piece of paper. Despite this, more and more teachers at FHS are using Schoology to give assignments.

pariscorp.com states that studies and polls have found that two-thirds of students prefer reading on paper over digital devices. Scientificamerican.com says Writing on paper by hand has been proven to be more effective and beneficial for studying habits. Having a hard copy of an assignment can also reduce the amount of distractions. There won’t be any notifications popping up on the device being used to complete an assignment, whether it be a computer, phone, or iPad,

According to pariscorp.com 64% of employees still prefer to use printed agendas and documents at the workplace. Many people would rather have a paper copy of an assignment for the reason of being reminded they have it. Having a physical copy of an assignment could keep you more on top of your work knowing that you have it in a folder instead of having it on a device.

Being able to have a notebook filled with notes and drawings is a better way to help explain the curriculum, also making it easier to keep track of assignments and more organized. Having the assignments on a computer would make it hard to keep up with due dates, organization, and note-taking. Think about being halfway through an assignment on a device, and then it dies and it doesn’t save. What would the solution be, especially if a charger isn’t present? Having an assignment done on paper would leave no room to worry about that problem.

As a student at FHS I have experienced this first hand. Using paper to write down notes and thoughts on the curriculum helps me keep myself organized and helps keep information in my head for tests, quizzes, and other assignments I may need the notes for. Doing work on a computer is just a heavy load that you don’t need. Carrying around your computer everywhere you go is a pain, literally!

Paper assignments are more efficient, help students retain the information better, are easily organized and are better than doing online assignments on a device that can glitch, have hiccups, and just flat out not save an assignment.
