Pro Con – Online Assignments are Better for Students

Teachers usually assign a mix of paper assignments and online assignments. Every student has their own preference, but which one truly is best for learning? Online assignments allow students to be more comfortable while working, and it’s more convenient. For instance, they can do their work anywhere without needing a flat surface or writing utensils. Teachers are also able to immediately return grades and feedback to students as well.

Online homework and school assignments allow students to be more comfortable working on their assignments. Instead of having to get a flat surface to write on, they can sit anywhere with their computer, phone or tablet, and work anytime. They don’t have to sit at a desk and a chair; with online assignments, students can lay in bed or sit on the couch. Not only do online assignments make it more physically comfortable, but students can also choose a more comfortable environment. Many students have social anxiety and being at home can help them focus better on the assignment.

Giving assignments online is also more cost-efficient. Having to print out multiple papers for every student gets expensive because of the cost of the paper and ink. Sometimes the printer isn’t working or the office runs out of ink, so then teachers can’t assign the work. Oftentimes, especially in the public school system, teachers have to supply their pencils and pens with their own money too. Although most students bring their own, not all do. Because of the cost of paper and ink, assigning online work would be cheaper and easier too.

Having online assignments is also more convenient. As mentioned before, with paper assignments students need a pencil and paper. Depending on the assignment, students also might need a textbook or some sort of packet. With online assignments, all one needs is an electronic device. It doesn’t even have to be a computer or laptop, as most assignments could be done on a phone. Using an electronic device can be done anywhere; from the park, an airplane, the car, or in bed and, if you’re using a phone, it can be done while walking or working out.
When turning in online assignments, most times it is graded as soon as the student turns it in. This is good for students because they don’t have to wait for teachers to grade. Sometimes teachers won’t put in grades until the last minute, so students don’t know what their grade is and whether or not they need to raise it. It is also good for teachers because they don’t have to be constantly grading assignments.

Overall, having both paper assignments and online assignments is ideal for a class.
