After popular TV shows like the “Mandalorian,” Lucasfilm has continued to create new spinoff TV shows in the Star Wars franchise. One newly-released show is “Ahsoka,” which tells the story of Ahsoka Tano, a Jedi from the previous “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” animated series that first aired in 2008. Set in a post-empire galaxy, she and some other characters struggle to stop the return of the empire.
With just eight episodes, there was little room for filler. This made watching it an engaging experience that kept viewers interested in what would happen next. That is until the last two episodes where the story felt drawn out, and almost just seemed like a way to add unnecessary suspense. While it is a TV show and adding suspense to keep viewers interested is nothing new, it felt like too much. There was more content they could have covered in that time which fans would have been interested in seeing.
The character choice, however, was absolutely on point. Ahsoka Tano is a character that fans have long wanted to see in a TV show and this satisfied that desire well. Many of the other characters are from “Star Wars Rebels” which was an animated TV show that premiered on DisneyXD in 2014. These characters see their first live-action appearance which is exciting for any Star Wars superfan who enjoyed that show. Bringing characters in that people already knew combined with just the right amount of new characters to mix it up, made the character choice perfect.
As fans have grown accustomed to with other Star Wars shows, the production quality does not disappoint. It’s clear that no expense was spared in making this story as good as possible. Despite being a smaller production than a full movie, Lucasfilm put the same love and attention into it. The special effects left nothing to be desired and the quality was certainly there.
Overall, “Ahsoka” is a good show and certainly fits into the Star Wars universe. Bringing in familiar characters to gain the interest of fans was definitely a good choice. However, the way the story was told is definitely affected by the multi-episode format which full Star Wars movies do not have. Despite this, the story is still good enough to warrant a watch, and if you’re a devoted fan who watched previous shows like “Rebels” and “Clone Wars,” you’ll enjoy seeing those stories continue.
