The Video Music Awards (VMAs) have been taking place for 41 years and continue to make headlines to this day. This year’s ceremony was held in UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, although the event had previously been held in New Jersey. Viewers were shocked and thrilled to see the outcomes for this year’s ceremony.
The complete list of nominees for award of Video of the Year were: Billie Eilish, for “Birds of a Feather,” Kendrick Lamar, for “Not Like Us,” Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, for “Die With A Smile,” Rosé & Bruno Mars, for “APT.,” Sabrina Carpenter, for “Manchild,” and The Weeknd and Playboi Carti, for “Timeless.”
Ariana Grande won Video of the Year, along with six other artists who had also won awards. Grande had won her award for her music video “Brighter Days Ahead,” and later went home with three different awards, including Video of the Year, Best K-Pop, Best R&B, Best Country, Best Pop Artist, Artist of the Year, and Best Album. However, Grande was not the only artist who won a high number of awards at the ceremony. Artist Lady Gaga was awarded the most awards, totaling four, including Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, and Best Art Direction.
The VMAs introduced two new categories: Best Pop Artist and Best Country Video. The winner of the Best Pop Artist award was Sabrina Carpenter. bbc.co.uk states that “Short n’ Sweet” picked up Album of the Year, while she was also named Best Pop Artist, as well as taking home the Visual Effects award for her song “Manchild.”
Sabrina Carpenter has recently been a new top singer, emerging with her hit album “Short ‘N Sweet,” and her most popular song “Espresso.” The 26-year-old singer has previously attended award ceremonies such as the annual Grammys, iHeartRadio Awards and the BRIT Awards. She originally appeared on Disney Channel, similar to how Grande was. Carpenter appeared on the show “Girl Meets World” and continues to make headlines in the world of pop culture.
The annual VMAs continue to make headlines 41 years later and remain a popular choice among viewers. All of the nominated artists go on to make breakthroughs in the music industry, and all the frequent host cities are proud to say that they have hosted the VMAs.
