Many talented students at Fauquier High School (FHS) put on a combined talent show during third block on March 21, 2025. Students showed off a range of talents, from singing, dancing and playing the piano to a display of many fashion styles based on various themes. These performers deserve more time in the spotlight, whether in front of or behind the curtains.
Many models walked the aisle ways, crossed the stage and struck a pose showing off their fashion. Sophomore Nathan Gibbs was a model in the fashion show. He says he enjoyed participating because “I love doing school stuff, and it especially sounded fun because I love doing stuff on stage.” Gibbs walked the runway with three different looks. He and sophomore Zoey Switzer did the 1940s for their decade, Sleeping Beauty for the movie and for prom, he says, “We just wanted to look spiffy and snazzy.” Gibbs recommended participating in the show: “It’s a great experience because you get to do stuff on stage, have the whole school watch you and it’s fun.” He also noted, “You also get to meet new people that are into fashion.” Participating in the show is good if you are interested in fashion.
Stepping off the runway and transitioning to the talent show segment, students who are in the French classes learned a dance to perform in the show. Sophomore Lorelei Pointer joined the French group dance because she “just thought it’d be fun,” Pointer said. “You only live once, might as well do it. I don’t usually perform on stage…It was fun. I really enjoyed it,” Pointer stated. Many students who performed the French dance thoroughly enjoyed participating. Junior Gillian Hall stated, “I wanted to do it since freshman year, and I just never really had the courage to do it. I want to do it next year, and I was thinking of dressing up in a costume and doing a little dance.”
Pointer enjoyed the show, saying her favorite part was the Disney category in the fashion show. “I really like the fashion part with the Disney. I liked WALL-E and EVE the best. I enjoyed watching the show because it was just fun and entertaining,” Pointer noted.
Another student at FHS, senior and exchange student Yosef Korten, combined and performed a few Indonesian traditional dances. Korten felt that sharing the dance on the stage was “a good time to show people my … Indonesian culture.” He combined three songs that were important to him. He mixed Wonderland Indonesia, which is a video song about Indonesia, and performed a traditional dance called the Tari Kecak. The second song is a traditional children’s song from Central Java Island. The last song is an entertaining song from his province, the East Musa Tagara province. Korten believes, “the talent show is really good for students to show their talent and also… learn and show other students, [and] maybe motivate [others] to do something.”
Looking behind the curtains, this show would not have been possible without those students working backstage. Senior and FBLA officer Julie Taylor helped backstage at the show. She stated, “[the responsibilities] were pretty fun. It wasn’t a lot of hard work or anything. It was just getting stuff on and off the stage quick.” Taylor also enjoyed the show, saying, “I honestly like watching it the most. It was fun helping out with everybody, though, and seeing it from a different angle.” Senior Nicole Squitieri ran the light and sound board, saying, “It’s pretty fun to be up there [to] watch everybody.”
Overall, the show was a success and many students had a fun time. Whether they participated in the show or sat in the audience and watched. The show had a fun atmosphere and was enjoyable for all.
