Sophomore, Sam Spare is a talented student who finds peace in creating art. She likes to do mostly acrylic paintings, specifically of animals. In addition, she enjoys painting watercolor landscapes.
Spare started doing art in middle school and she took part in different art competitions. Art runs in her blood and her family inspired her to start drawing. “My grandmother was a pretty good artist too,” she added.
Spare’s creations are very beautiful and detailed, creating one piece can take anywhere from hours to days. “[How long I spend painting] depends on how much motivation I have to do it,” Spare said. She likes to do her art outside in nature. There is one specific lake near her home where she spends a lot of time drawing. Being in the fresh air gives her inspiration and encourages her to draw. Most of her inspiration comes from nature scenes and walking around outside.
Currently Spare is taking Art II in school, but she intends to go up to Art III and switch over to graphics to develop her skills even more in different art styles. Her art teacher Dawn Brown is absolutely fascinated by Spare’s artwork. Brown described, “[Her art is] very realistic, she likes to put a lot of details into her work, even in her sketches that are not even a part of the final piece.” “I haven’t seen anything that she has done that is bad, I would say drawing is her biggest strength,” Brown adds. Brown thinks that Spare’s best pieces are the ones that have a personal meaning to her.
Spare is not planning to study art in the future, but rather continue the art path as a hobby. She wants to send her art to different competitions and shows and share her creations with others. Brown thinks that Spare will have a bright future because “she’s clearly really gifted.”
