Sophomore Virginia Brodsky is one of the many talented artists at Fauquier High School (FHS). She has spent years practicing art and has well deserved her spot in the National Art Honor Society (NAHS). Brodsky thinks of art as another way to express herself. “I love the freedom that it gives me to express myself in a way that words can’t. I love that it’s my passion and that I’ve always loved it. It gives me something to put my mind to and do with myself for the time being,” Brodsky said.
Many experiences inspired Brodsky to start doing art. “I’ve been doing art since I was a little kid. It all started when my mom would give me one of those Crayola watercolor sets. I had this baby easel, and I painted on that every single day. It just went from there like a snowball,” Brodsky shared. Brodsky also enjoys her work in NAHS, saying, “It’s a really good club for artists because we paint murals, and I think it’s really fun because it lets everyone see the talent that the school holds. It [also] gives our school something to show off for because I’ve never heard about all the other murals at the other schools, but I always see pictures online of our murals,” she stated. There are also several opportunities in NAHS. “It gives back to the community because we have to volunteer for a lot of stuff,” Brodsky added.
Brodsky enjoys many different styles of art, but one stands out in particular. “I adore doing mixed media. Cutting out pictures from magazines or using fancy papers and textiles to make something is so fun for me because I can use whatever I want to make whatever I want,” Brodsky commented. While different styles inspired Brodsky to keep pursuing art, so did different artists. “[An] artist that inspires me is Sandro Botticelli from the Renaissance. His art was so pretty and… I still find myself really inspired by him because he was one of the first Renaissance artists to make big changes in art,” said Brodsky.
Brodsky has spent her entire life following her passion for art. She has gained new experiences and opportunities from it and has worked hard to become one of the most talented artists in FHS. She works hard on her art not just for herself but also to better the school by participating in NAHS. Brodsky continues to work hard and inspire others every day.
