The Fauquier High School (FHS) football program is a popular and respected organization within the school. The varsity team is composed of many talented and hard-working athletes. One who stands out among the rest is junior Cameron Kabinski.
Kabinski has recently been elevated to the intimidating role of starting varsity quarterback. The change occurred after an injury to the previous starter, senior Amari Martin. While this is a drastic change, it provides the younger generation of the team with valuable experience playing under pressure. Kabinski sees this as “stepping up for the team because it’s a big position to play.”
At FHS, like many other American high schools, football is a source of connection between students and players. Getting ready for and attending the varsity football game on a chilly early-autumn Friday night is a highlight at the end of a long week for many high school students.
Football has always been part of Kabinski’s life. “I followed what my family did, and they all played football,” stated Kabinski. Not only does playing the sport mean upholding a family tradition, but it also provides a fun outlet in his life. As Kabinski put it, “I like playing for the fun of the game.”.
To have maintained his football skill, Kabinski has had to “practice every day for basically [his] whole life.” When Kabinski was younger, he used to play on a travel team. “It helped build me as a person and learn responsibility,” explained Kabinski.
Playing in college is a big goal for Kabinski as he “plans to continue with football.” Since Kabinski is still a junior, his opportunities are vast and ever-growing. This means that he has time to decide where he wants to continue his college football career.
Coaches see Kabinski as selfless and a natural leader. Cole Hunt, a football coach at FHS, told of his experience with Kabinski, saying, “When [Kabinski] made the switch to quarterback, it wasn’t something that he necessarily wanted to do, but he did it because he knew that the team needed him to do it.”
Athleticism is a crucial aspect of playing any sport, particularly when competing at the high school varsity level. Kabinski is praised and recognized widely for his dedication and skills on the football field. “He brings a lot of speed and running ability to the quarterback position, and he can really throw the ball far,” explained Coach Hunt.
The role of quarterback is an important position, considering the pressure and influence they hold. Kabinski is new to this role, but is already adjusting well. FHS is excited to see all the positive ways Cameron Kabinski will impact the football team.
