Athlete Spotlight: Christian Friedl
Q: What sports do you currently play?
A: I play football, track, and lacrosse.
Q: When did you start playing football and what is your position?
A: I started playing when I was seven years old. Everyone was playing it and I thought it looked really fun. I play wide receiver and cornerback. When playing wide receiver I try to get open to catch the ball. When I play cornerback, I cover the wide receiver and make sure that they don’t catch the ball.
Q: What do you enjoy most about football?
A: Just playing. It’s a really fun sport to play and it keeps me in shape.
Q: How are you feeling about this football season?
A: It’s definitely not what I want, but I think we have a lot of talent we just have to tone it in.
Q: You said you play lacrosse, what position do you play and when did you start playing?
A: I play attack and started around the same time as football, so around seven years old.
Q: Do you play a travel league along with the school season? When does it usually go on?
A: Yes, I do play in a travel league for lacrosse. It can be in spring but also in the fall.
Q: How did you feel about last lacrosse season?
A: I loved it. I think we did really well. We made it to the state quarter-finals. I think this year will be a bigger challenge because we lost more seniors.
Q: Why do you enjoy playing lacrosse?
A: I just love playing the game. I like how fast it is and how you can be creative with it.
Q: Do you feel like you have a special connection with any coaches that you’ve had?
A: My lacrosse coach has been my coach since I started playing lacrosse, so I feel like I have the best connection with him. I connect with my track and football coaches as well, but lacrosse is really just the strongest.
Q: You said you do track, can you explain what you do in track?
A: I do sprints but I mostly just do the 55 because I don’t like long distances. I do winter track to keep in shape and learn how to run faster.
Q: Does sports affect your free time to do other things you do for fun?
A: Yeah, it definitely does but I think it’s all worth it in the end because I’m doing the things I love.
