Bird Bowl 2022 Approaches This Friday
The 28th annual Fauquier Bird Bowl is approaching fast. On Friday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. the Falcons will be facing the Liberty Eagles. According to the FHS Zoo Instagram page, the theme for the 2022 Bird Bowl is a red out. To be spirited, Falcon fans should wear as much red as possible.
The first Bird Bowl was in 1994, when Liberty High School opened 28 years ago, with Fauquier crushing Liberty 27-0. The two rival schools playing for a trophy is a tradition that many parents and students look forward to, especially since the pandemic has affected the last few seasons.
During the 2020 Covid season, the Falcons beat the Eagles 21-14, however, that game was forfeited due to FHS picking up an extra game. The forfeit declared the FHS win unofficial, so the Eagles’ streak is still preserved. Technically, FHS hasn’t won the Bird Bowl since 2007.
In an interview with FHS football coach Karl Buckwalter, he shared that he feels the Bird Bowl has equal importance compared to the rest of the games. “For me, it’s just another game we need to win,” said Buckwalter. As a coach, Buckwalter believes the Falcons emphasize and strive to win every game.
