The winter sports season is coming to an end, and spring sports are about to start. A team’s season that is highly anticipated is that of the Fauquier Boys Soccer Team. The varsity boys soccer team had an amazing season last year. They won districts and are hoping to make it to regionals this year, or maybe even further. They are very motivated for this upcoming season and can’t wait to get started.
There are a lot of mixed emotions for this season, but most players are excited to finally get back in the game. Junior Chris Guevara is ready for the upcoming season, saying, “I am feeling excited… I’m ready because we still [have] a good team [and] we are ready to put in the work.”
There were many seniors on the team that contributed to the success of last year’s season. Many wonder how successful the team will be having lost those veteran players. Senior Owen Lynch said, “Well I think its going to be a pretty good season…We did lose a lot of good seniors, but I still have high hopes for this season.” Sophomore Adelmo Chavez said, “I’m feeling good… I think we will do great like we did last year.” Confidently, Chavez added, “I hope we can win districts again.”
The team had many good matches last season but were challenged by John Handley High School. They weren’t able to show off what they were capable of, but, this year, they want to get their redemption. For this reason, Chavez said the team that he is most excited to play is, “John Handley because we always lose to them, but this year we are going to win.” Guevara agrees, saying, “… John Handley because we have not won.. We didn’t beat them last year.” It is clear some of the boys are manifesting a win against Handley this year.
The boys have been going to conditioning and pick up games as well, which is helping them prepare for the season. Chase Davenport, varsity head coach, thinks that the pick up games and conditioning, “…helps their cardio, it helps their endurance and it also helps build the team a little bit. The upperclassmen are talking to the underclassmen and getting to know each other, kinda showing them what the program is all about.” Overall the team wants to have a good season, and as Lynch states “.. be undefeated.”
