After consecutive first place finishes in the district and regional wrestling tournaments, junior Kingsley Menifee completed the trifecta by winning the 4A 182 pound state title in Virginia Beach. Menifee dominated the first three rounds with two pins and a commanding 11-2 victory in the semifinals. In the finals, he faced in-county for Abrahm Chumley of Kettle Run. In their fourth match up of the year, Menifee prevailed 4-0, commanding the match the whole way. Composed all the way through, Kingsley described his emotions by saying “ Honestly, when I won states, I really wasn’t that excited because I knew I had already done bigger things.” Kingsley spoke on keeping up with expectations by also mentioning “I knew I was going in there at number 1 in the state so I had to uphold that ranking and come out on top.” Kingsley wrestled with something to prove the whole season after taking second place in state his sophomore year. Kingsley credited his success to the workrate intensifying at practice as the season went on. When asked about the dynamics of the wrestling team this season Kingsley admitted “ The bond we had at the start wasn’t the best, it was very toxic, but after we cut this individual off the team, we got closer and had more fun. After an extremely successful season Kingsley went undefeated in the postseason winning districts, regionals, states, as well as the prestigious beast of the east tournament. After all these accolades, one could only wonder what his next step may be. Lastly, Kingsley said “After high school I want to fulfill my D1 aspirations.”
