The 2024 girls’ lacrosse season is quickly approaching, and, as the spring gets closer, many of the girls are excited for the season to start. Sophomore Amanda Chow has a positive outlook on the season ahead, saying, “I feel really good about this season… there’s the support system that we’ve been building so far.” Chow joined the team last year as a brand new lacrosse player and said, “…there was a lot of growth, a lot of learning and honestly I think it turned out pretty well for me.” Freshman Jena Buzzi agrees, saying, “I think it’s gonna be a good [season], we all have a strong foundation, and I think if I stay focused and motivated it’ll be a really good season.”
The only road block that players foresaw was the recent change in coaches of the team. At the moment, the varsity team doesn’t have an official coach, and Yvie Frazier is the new coach for the JV team. Even with the obstacles that come with adjusting to new coaches, senior Lana Barkovic remained optimistic, saying, “We have a new assistant coach for the team. That’s Coach [Pura], he brought a nice, new outlook for the team.” Barkovic also mentioned that many new girls joined the team the past couple years. “…it’s been nice having so many more girls not only for subbing in and out of games, but also for just having a better experience as a team.”
Conditioning has already started and tryouts begin in February. With school lacrosse being a spring sport, many of the girls play other sports throughout the rest of the year, and have been starting to tie lacrosse into their present sports as well. Junior Audrey Rehaluk says “I play ice hockey too and I’ve been doing pretty much everything you can to crosstrain the two sports.” All the girls are just as dedicated as her, and Rehaluk states “a lot of us lift and run on our own,” and all of these girls are really excited for the season to start.
