Hallmark, originally a greeting card manufacturer, is best known for the jolly and heartfelt holiday movies they produce. Most of the movies released by Hallmark share a similar plot, and each film seems to have very little imagination and creativity. The plot usually goes as follows: a man and a woman will meet in a peculiar way, like a magical letter from Santa Claus or through a taxi service, only to find out they are complete opposites. Against all odds, the two will fall in love and realize that they can love anyone no matter their background or how they grew up and naturally, this all will happen during the Christmas season. The acting in all these movies is mediocre, and the ending is never a surprise, but this begs the question: Why do people still watch Hallmark movies?
Everyone has their go-to comfort movies; for some, those are Hallmark Christmas movies. While these movies are often cheesy and cringy, they still manage to invoke that happy feeling people get after watching a romantic movie, especially if it is set during Christmas time. This is likely the main reason the films continue to be produced and why they continue to get so much attention. These movies have been called a waste of time and money, even though they look like they were made with minimal budget. Every actor looks the same, and it is almost impossible to differentiate the settings in each movie. With the low-quality acting and unoriginal storylines, these movies need to stop being produced; instead, the money should go into the Hallmark company.
