After a long four-year hiatus, The Neighbourhood is back with a brand-new album for their fans. “(((((ultraSOUND)))))” was released on Nov. 14, 2025, and is the fifth album in their discography. Included are three pre-released singles, “OMG”, “Lovebomb” and “Private”, all released on Oct. 23, 2025. With The Neighbourhood’s previous album, “Chip Chrome & the Mono-Tones,” released on Sept. 25, 2020, many fans believed the band would never return from their hiatus in 2021. After a couple of years, band members Jesse Rutherford, Brandon Alexander Fried, Zach Abels, Mikey Margott and Jeremy Freedman are back to give their fans more of the music they love.
“OMG” is the second song on “(((((ultraSOUND)))))” and one of the pre-released singles. The Neighbourhood has a common theme in their songs, typically focusing on stories of love or heartache. With these songs being fairly new, “OMG” has lyrics that lean more towards longing for the love he had shared with someone. “Rain or shine, you’re always on my mind” conveys that even if this person was bad and no longer in their life, they still harbour a fondness for them. Throughout this song, some lyrics describe what this person started doing to him. “I just want to smile the way I used to, I did it ’cause you told me to, I did it for you,” showing that this person he loved started telling him what to do, but he never refused because he loved them. The chaotic sound of “OMG” corresponds to the feeling of how much love can take over someone.
“Lovebomb,” the third song on this album, has a much softer feel, unlike “OMG.” Still on the topic of romance, “Lovebomb” talks about the magic of being in love. The tension of saying “I love you” is building up with this person. The lyrics, “I know it’s way too soon to tell you, I love you,” show that he doesn’t wanna look crazy or scare this person off by telling them he loves them too early on. “Hollowed, coddled, swallowed in a trance” describes the magical feeling of love with this person. All words are in the past tense, indicating that this person consumed his life and was drawn into an unreal dream world.
“Private” is the fourth song on “(((((ultraSOUND)))))” and the last pre-release single. “Private” is a slower and eerier song. The lyrics, “Why does it feel like we’re hiding?” talk about keeping their relationship discreet. Throughout the song, it explains how lively this person is. The repeated “Shh, keepin’ it private” emphasises their dedication to keeping their relationship private. With the harsh bass and different meaning behind the lyrics, “Private” is easily the best song on the album.
The Neighbourhood put a great deal of effort and time into “(((((ultraSOUND)))))”, making it the perfect album to kick off their 2026 tour and reunion. From heartbreak to heartache, this album has it all.
