Ashley Perez is a freshman on the girls varsity soccer team who plays attacking midfielder; students may spot this fantastic player dominating the team’s opponents as number eight on the field. Perez has put in a major effort to make the varsity team. Perez said, “I’ve been playing soccer since I was three” showing off her dedication for the sport.
Perez originally started playing because of her father’s influence. “When I was a kid he was playing, and when I saw him I wanted to play too.” Perez never expected to make varsity her first year playing for FHS, which shows off her humility.
Perez also plays for a club outside of FHS called the Virginia Soccer Association or VSA. Perez said that it’s hard balancing school and soccer at the same time. There are long practices and games during the week. Perez comments “Sometimes I don’t have time for homework.” Even with this challenging schedule Perez was able to maintain all As.
Perez said that some of her favorite highlights from this season so far include the wins they got against the Skyline Hawks and the Manassas Park Cougars. Perez thinks that the team has an incredible bond and thinks that they will go very far this year. More of the students at FHS should go out and support both teams in their incredible skills and see Perez tearing up the field time and again.
