The boys varsity team has been having a great season so far this spring. There are various outstanding players on the team, one of them being junior Javier Contreras.
Contreras has been having a great season so far, with a count of five goals that has been able to help the team win a total of four games so far. Contreras explained where his love for soccer came from and how it started, saying “I started playing for an actual club when I was 12, but I’ve been playing the sport for fun since I was about eight years old.”
There’s no better feeling than helping out the team achieve a goal. Scoring for the team is always a good feeling. Contreras’ favorite part about the sport is “scoring goals because you’re able to help your teammates win and you get to celebrate after.” Every position holds a different and important job. Contreras explained what responsibility he takes in the position he plays, “I play center attacking mid, and basically what my job is. I have to get the ball and pass it to Chris [varsity striker player] as the forward, or to just score.” Soccer also comes with some difficult struggles. A lot of soccer players tend to struggle with confidence, physical and mental problems, however Contreras said the hardest part about the sport for him is, “the running part, I tend to get tired too fast.”
On March 15, 2024, the boys soccer team played against Skyline High School. The boys varsity team won from scoring 8 goals. Contreras mentioned that this specific match has been his favorite from the season so far, “I would say my favorite memory was my first goal of the season when I scored against Skyline.” Contreras has been able to help the team a lot with his hard work and contribution.
