Brooke Farmer is a freshman at FHS. She tried out for the softball team hoping to make junior varsity, and, to her surprise, she made it on to varsity. “I just kind of went out and tried my best but I also just hoped for the best,” said Farmer.
She has been playing softball since the 4th grade, which is almost six years. Farmer is so dedicated to her sport that even when softball is not in season, she still finds ways to practice. During the off season Farmer plays for a travel team, LLG, which stands for Lady Lighting Gold. Even though she has played softball for a while, it was not always her top sport. Prior to Farmer getting serious about softball, she played soccer, basketball and volleyball before finally settling on softball.
On the team, Farmer plays pitcher and middle infielder. Playing pitcher can be a stressful position. This with the added pressure of being a freshman on varsity can be tough. “Sometimes I do get nervous before games because of the pressure to be good.” she said. Farmer states that her school work load is not too tough, but sometimes it can be challenging to keep up with it. Luckily her second semester classes are not too difficult in her opinion. She says that one of her more difficult classes this semester is math. “I’ve bever been that good at math, you know so sometimes that class is difficult to juggle along with softball practices and games.”
