Being a captain and playing for a volleyball team while playing other sports can be quite tedious, but Audrey Hall can do it. Hall is a middle blocker and a captain for the varsity volleyball team at FHS. She started playing during her freshman year and is now in her senior year.
Some athletes have a love-hate relationship with their sport since it can be quite difficult at times. “… not being hard on yourself is the most difficult thing about volleyball since it’s just as much a mental game as physical since it’s hard to keep a positive attitude [at times].” Hall said.
Getting nervous before or during games is a very common thing that athletes experience, but Hall expresses that “my track coach taught me how to meditate, so I meditate before games and it really helps me calm down.”
Hall comments on how her number one supporter is her brother, saying, “He comes to all my games and he makes sure he doesn’t miss anything with [volleyball]… I deeply appreciate that he does!”
Injuries are often athletes’ worst nightmare since they can ruin people’s perspectives on a sport and could stop them from playing, which sadly happened to Hall.“Sophomore year I did not play for the highschool, I wanted nothing to do with the program since I injured myself, and I almost didn’t come back last year, or this year…. I fractured my vertebrae and tore my meniscus but I went to Liberty camp with the team and it kinda just made me realize that even if I don’t like the sport 100% of the time, I wanna be around those girls all the time.” Hall said.
Hall wanted to share something to all younger volleyball players that aspire to take volleyball to the next level, saying, “ Don’t ever quit because you’re [most likely] gonna regret it… don’t compare yourself to other players but instead use them to push yourself to become better.”
