Fauquier High School’s swim team had an incredible season. The coaches picked and released the names of the swimmers who made it onto the regional swim team. Each swimmer qualifies for the events they are best at. “I am swimming the 100 back and the 100 free, and I am an alternate for the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay,” said sophomore Cara Rooke.
The regional competition took place on Feb. 3. Swimmers have to work hard to be on the regional swim team. “It is a very big accomplishment… I am really glad,” said junior Cole Burton. This is freshman Campbell Walker’s first year on the team. In the swim team’s last meet, Walker dropped 3 seconds off of her 100 breaststroke. “I qualified for the 400 relay, 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke and then I am an alternate for the 200 free relay.” Walker said.
Junior Makenzie Boyd said, “I think that we will make it to states.” This is a very exciting year for the swim team with 19 out of 33 students making it to regionals and, knowing how strong the team is, making states is a very real possibility. The swim team has lots of incredibly talented people. Junior Marcus Pollack said, “I have been on the team since freshman year… I am number six in the state.”
Team bonding is also something that the team does really well. Rooke has been on the team for two years and said, “It was really fun to make new friends.” Friendship is a huge part of being on a team. Friends push each other to work harder and get better at the sport.
The swim team has lots of great swimmers and each of the swimmers who made it onto the regional swim team worked hard to earn their place there.
