The FHS Football team has lost the Homecoming Game against James Wood with a score of 20-10. The Fauquier football team played well, attempting to beat hard competition with good defense and offense. Senior football player Dylan Epperson described how the team was suffering due to injuries and lack of players. Epperson stated, “I am not sure what we could of done, we are running low on number [of players], but every game there is a new injury that happens and, it is getting to the point they’re getting a standby ambulance down [at the field] for each game, so there isn’t much you can do to prevent it because of this.” Epperson also stated that “The gameplans that the team had focused on for that game included a running team that does not pass the ball very much, because the offense has a good Run Pass Option system.” Epperson also stated that he thinks the game went well, stating, “we didn’t finish with the win, I don’t think we did terribly, but we need to work on some things.” He also stated that he wasn’t upset with the loss of the game. Epperson said, “I’m not super upset, I’d love to win the game but, at the end of the day, we just need to execute better.” Epperson said there were multiple things he could have done to prevent losing the game, saying, “I could have stepped up and been more of a leader, which I feel like it is something we really need right now, and we just haven’t found who that is yet. Although it is late into the season, I hope we do find one.” “At this point in the season I’d say it was a huge loss because we are trying to fight and see if we could potentially make the playoffs and with this loss it’s going to be harder for us. Right now we have won one game and have lost six games,” said Epperson. Epperson described his position, stating, “I play left tackle and defensive tackle on the defense side.” He also said how he thought the game would end off with Fauquier High School winning, stating, “I thought we would win by a longshot, because James Wood is alright but not the best team, thinking that we would come out on top though.”
