Ever since its initial PlayStation release in February of 2024, players of “Helldivers II” have been fighting against the foes of “Super Earth.” The future version of Earth has become a militaristic society driven by propaganda. With “Helldivers II” now on a different console after its Xbox release on Aug. 26, 2025, a vast influx of new players is now playing the action-packed game.
“Helldivers II,” developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, is a cooperative, third-person shooter set in the year 2184. Players take the role of Helldivers, the elite and expendable soldiers of “Super Earth,” tasked with spreading “managed democracy” and destroying the enemies of mankind.
For more than a year, the player count of “Helldivers II” has been slowly decreasing, especially after the many ups and downs the game has been through. With “Helldivers II” releasing on Xbox, the number of Helldivers increased from around 50,000 players to more than 250,000 players.
In-game, the Helldivers go against the different enemies of “Super Earth”: “Automatons (The bots),” “Termanids (The bugs)” and “Illuminate (The squids),” with each having their own motives to take over the galaxy.
The gameplay loop of “Helldivers II” is entertaining and keeps the playing experience enjoyable and unique. Every game played feels different from the last, and has a tremendous amount of hilarious and cinematic moments, from a final previous stand to dying to a friendly orbital barrage. The random moments in the game are one of the main reasons so many people enjoy “Helldivers II.”
The game is loved by fans because the developers listen so well to players. A previous update that angered “Helldivers II” fans reduced the player’s equipment’s effectiveness and made the gameplay less enjoyable overall. After Arrowhead heard the community’s outcry and created “The 60 Day Plan,” a series of updates that restored the game’s balance, changing how Arrowhead develops future updates. Shortly after the release of “Helldivers II” on Xbox, Arrowhead announced the “Into The Unjust” update. The new update allows Helldivers to traverse a Termanid homeworld, “Oshuane.”
“Helldivers II” is truly an astounding game that has kept players hooked for a long time. The game is enjoyable, integrating unique mechanics that enhance the overall chaotic yet entertaining experience.
