Pure excitement that’ll keep fans daydreaming for hours, “How to Train Your Dragon” was released on June 13, 2025. Based on DreamWorks’ “How to Train Your Dragon,” released in 2010, this new live-action movie has captured the attention of millions of fans. The actors, brilliant CGI and complex animations made this movie one of a kind.
The plot closely followed the original film and elevated the storyline to its full potential. “With a lovable cast of characters sure to spark plenty of laughs and a heartfelt story that pulls at the heartstrings, How to Train Your Dragon may just be the best live-action adaptation yet.” (Audience Says, Rotten Tomatoes).
The plot of the original story was spot on throughout the entire movie. There were minimal added scenes, ensuring adherence to DreamWorks’ original story plan. The main character, Hiccup (played by Mason Thames), is a scrawny Viking unwilling to kill a dragon. Hiccup’s father, Stoick the Vast (played by Gerard Butler), has other plans for him. As Hiccup befriends a dragon (whom he names Toothless) while his father is away, he learns much about the dragon world and how to train a dragon. Many fans were pleasantly surprised by the CGI that was created for Toothless, as it is impressively detailed and realistic. The twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut, played by Bronwyn James and Harry Trevaldwyn, played a significant role in the movie. They create an atmosphere that makes viewers feel giddy and want to laugh.
There was mild controversy over another character, Astrid (played by Nico Parker). In the original movies, Astrid is written as a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl. Many fans say Parker doesn’t fit that part well. However, her acting and emotional performance throughout the movie earned her respect from critics, making her role seem more credible. The overall casting received minor criticism, as many fans would have preferred the roles to match the original animations. Many thought that the sudden need for diversity wasn’t necessary. However, Parker’s acting was amazing, and she played Astrid admirably well.
This imaginative movie, suitable for all ages, is one of the best adaptations of the year. From its spirited actors to its spot-on plot, fans can’t get enough. Many viewers praise the way it can evoke nostalgia, saying that the moment the theme song plays, it brings back memories of the original animated movie. “How to Train Your Dragon” is a must-watch that brings millions of fans worldwide excitement.
