“Primate” is a terrifying movie that pushes horror to a new limit. Whether it’s the graphic kills or the jump scares, “Primate” excels at portraying the true monstrous side of rabies. The movie was released on Jan. 9th, 2026, and it follows a chimpanzee named Ben who is bitten and turns into a rabid monster that slowly becomes more insane over the course of the film.
The move has a relatively small cast, yet they all contribute to the story, and it pays off. All the performances felt real and the screams genuine, with people like Johnny Sequoyah and Troy Kotsur. While Ben may just be a chimpanzee, he absolutely steals the show with each kill.
In addition, the movie’s scares are dialed to the max given the small space and nighttime setting. The production of “Primate” effectively conveys what nighttime is like in the movie’s location, Hawaii. It uses elements such as lighting to add intensity and realism.
One major flaw with the movie is the soundtrack. Some scenes featuring Ben have rather boring sound design, making them feel underwhelming. Another issue with the movie is its reliance on graphic scenes. Compared to other horror films, like “Terrifier,” which is best known for its brutal kills, “Primate” takes the bloodshed to the max. Some viewers may find the scenes very gross and disgusting; however, that is actually perfect for an animal like Ben. Though the movie is very graphic, it manages to show what rabies can do to an animal.
The movie is sadly very short, only lasting about an hour and a half. However, every second gets better than the last. “Primate” is a great movie to watch if one wants nightmares and to be terrified of chimpanzees!
