Pulling audiences onto one of the biggest emotional rollercoasters in recent cinema, the movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, “Regretting You,” took theatres by storm. The movie was released in theatres on Oct. 24, 2025, and is now available to stream on Paramount+. It features beloved rising stars of Hollywood: Mason Thames and McKenna Grace, who play the teenage leads, Miller Adams and Clara Grant, respectively. “Regretting You” explores the lives of two generations as they experience love, loss, and life’s ups and downs. The movie’s cast and premise were instantly exciting for many viewers, and the film itself surely did not disappoint.
The plot follows multiple timelines, each revealing drama and shocking twists that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Primarily, it revolves around the story of two sisters, Morgan (Allison Williams) and Jenny (Willa Fitzgerald), and their romantic partners, Johan (Dave Franco) and Chris (Scott Eastwood), as well as their children, 16-year-old Clara and infant Eli. The movie was riddled with shocking secrets and big reveals throughout, with almost every scene uncovering something new and enticing. Ultimately, it is a story of family and true love, as Morgan and her daughter, Clara, navigate tragedy, romance, and self-discovery.
While the film is highly emotional and heartwrenching, it perfectly balances heavier topics with humor and joy. From moving signs for pizza to betting on air, the movie displays both the messiness and the beauty of life. The cast’s chemistry and dynamics are realistic and meaningful, making the audience feel for the characters with their whole hearts. Every actor truly embodies their role, and the life each cast member brings to their character creates an immersive, atmospheric experience for the audience.
However, Grace and Thames particularly stand out in film for their swoon-worthy tension and playful interactions, as well as their ability to capture profound moments with depth and sincerity. The romance between the characters Clara and Miller is a key element of the plot and was essentially what built anticipation for the movie’s release.
Another exceptional element of the movie was its use of setting to convey tone and mood. The small town where the story takes place gives the film a cozy, familiar feeling, accurately depicting how that familiarity can be both comforting and suffocating. The high quality and attention to detail put into the sets restate and enhance the characters’ complicated, layered emotions. Between childhood homes, retro-style movie theatres, unkempt spaces, sterile hospitals, coffee shops, and more, the setting truly helps reflect the movie’s themes and major events.
In addition, many fans of the original novel were pleased with how accurately the movie followed the book. While, like almost any book-to-movie adaptation, there were some slight discrepancies, the majority of Hoover’s readers thought the production and actors did the story justice.
As a whole, “Regretting You” is sure to please. Its cast, plot, sets, and overall production culminated in an enjoyable and entertaining movie.
