Regarding fashion, junior Christalyn Boahen is always one step ahead, exploring new trends while staying true to her style. She doesn’t just follow what’s popular; she takes inspiration from social media and finds ways to make it her own.
Social media has become a key influence in how Boahen chooses her outfits. She often scrolls through Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok to discover new aesthetics and see what’s trending. These apps give her ideas from looks trending worldwide, keeping her style unique. She enjoys experimenting with different styles while making sure they blend in with her style.
Boahen’s closet is a blend of casual comfort and trends. Her favorite shopping spots are Hollister and Target, where she finds a mix of comfortable and trendy pieces. From there, she creates a look that consists of fitted jeans, cropped sweaters and cozy hoodies with sneakers for a casually comfortable and cool vibe.
While these platforms introduce her to new ideas, Boahen doesn’t just copy what she sees; she makes it her own. Instead of copying what she sees online, she would get an idea of the outfit and blend it with how she feels that day. “Not every trend is for me, and that’s okay,” she explains. “ I take what I like seeing and leave what I don’t behind. It’s about making the outfit that makes you feel comfortable,” Boahen adds.
For Boahen, confidence is just as important as the outfit itself. No matter how trendy an outfit may be, she believes that how someone carries themselves makes a look stand out. “You could be wearing the simplest outfit, but if you have confidence, that’s what people will notice first,” She says. “It’s not just about what you wear but it is about how you wear it.” Boahen believes that even wearing a fantastic outfit can go unnoticed if she doesn’t have a positive mindset. “I’ve seen people pull off things I never thought could work, just because they own it. Confidence makes any outfit way better,” Boahen adds.
Boahen’s thoughts about having a sense of fashion are all about feeling comfortable and confident. “The best outfits are the ones that make you feel good,” she says. “If you feel confident in what you’re wearing, people will see that before they even see the clothes.
As fashion continues to change, Boahen will always stay true to herself. She believes fashion is about embracing her feelings and making a way of dressing feel like her own, rather than simply following what’s popular.
