Freshman Lydia (LJ) Soler is bringing her own unique style to the hallways of Fauquier High School. From eye-catching patterns to one-of-a-kind accessories, Soler always has something new and interesting to wear. Soler takes fashion inspiration from “Scene Queens” and early 2000s and 2010s style. The Scene aesthetic is a category of the emo genre, while being more bright, colorful and fun. Soler plays around with that aesthetic while also bringing her fresh spin on it. She enjoys experimenting with different looks and likes to explore more “dated” trends.
Every day, Soler rocks a new and stylish fit with confidence. She attests to occasionally being judged or having strange looks for her choices, but she doesn’t let other opinions faze her. “I literally don’t care about the negative comments,” Soler said. While being indifferent to the haters, she hopes her peers will be more open to different aesthetics. “There’s so many artistic ways of presenting yourself. If people were just more open to that amount of creativity and things we could see, that could change everything,” Soler states.
For Soler, having style does not have to be expensive. She purchases most of her clothes from various second-hand stores, an environment and cost-friendly way to find cute outfits. “All my clothes are from the thrift store,” she noted. Soler also encourages others to be themselves and to embrace their own personal style with confidence. “The number one thing is: do not be afraid of what people are gonna say. You might get weird glances, but it doesn’t matter. Just dress how you wanna dress and do not care what anyone says.”
