College decisions are tough and can come with tremendous amounts of stress. Luckily, Andrew Walls, a Path Advisor here at Fauquier High School (FHS) is set to help students with this journey. Walls started working here around three months ago and is very enthusiastic to be a part of the FHS faculty, guiding students through academics in preparation for college and/or future plans.
Walls attended Virginia Tech University and had an undergraduate in sports media and analytics. He later went to Radford University where he graduated with a graduate degree in strategic communications. During his time at Radford University, Walls was a graduate teaching assistant, “I learned that I love working with students, and that's the area I wanted to go into more than anything.”
Located in the main guidance office, Walls is always ready to give advice. Not only to those wanting to further academic plans, but also to those who don’t know yet. “If you think that you don't have direction, it's just about trying new things and figuring out what you do and don't like, and then you'll know when you're in the right position or right field,” Walls says.
Although Walls is a new advisor, he has already learned so much. Most notably, he learned that his such as not every student is the same and they each need to be approached differently, “It's really just about learning who you're advising, not trying to be the best advisor possible, but trying to be the best advisor for that specific student.”
Outside of school, one of Walls biggest hobbies is to game, “I'm a big gamer. My favorite games are Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of Duty. I play a lot with my friends from high school that I'm still in contact with.” Walls also enjoys watching movies and shows, “The best TV show that I've ever watched was Breaking Bad. My favorite show right now is Chad Powers, which just came out on Disney [Plus].”
Walls is very eager to expand his career as a path advisor here at FHS and hopes that students, with the help of his guidance and resources, will find the right path.
