The Fauquier High School (FHS) Boys Basketball team claimed victory against Kettle Run High School, putting an end to a four-year losing streak against their rivals. The team, fueled by determination, dominated the game, ending it with a 78-43 score. The FHS players worked so hard and tirelessly but always stayed confident.
For many of the players on the FHS team, this win was satisfying after suffering multiple losses to Kettle Run in previous seasons. Sophomore player Trey Thompson said, “It feels very good because we played them three times last year and lost all three, this time we beat them by 30.” Thomson said that the team's preparation was as much mental as it was physical and ensured they approached the game with confidence.
Senior player Nate Edwards believes this win will have a positive impact on the rest of the season. “I think it's going to boost us a lot,” he said. “Right now, it looks like we're going to be very good for the rest of our games,” Edwards stated.
Howard Burnett, senior, expresses his gratitude for finally overthrowing Kettle Run. “It feels great because of all the hard work we've put in over the past two or three years. We just couldn't get the win before,” he said. Like his teammates, he never doubted to win this game. “I think the whole team had complete confidence to beat Kettle Run,” he added.
Senior player, Dylan Donner, a three-year varsity player, shows appreciation towards his team after their big win. “It's awesome. I've been on varsity for three years and we lost them twice each year. We were trying to get that win and now that we have it's a great feeling,” Donner said.
The FHS team gave credit for their preparation and strong communication, which led to their win. Donner, who has been playing basketball since he was three years old, knows the importance of leadership and connection with teammates. “I've built a tight connection with everybody. Over the years, I've learned how to be a better leader and how to handle different situations,” he said.
The victory over Kettle Run not only ended the loss but also set a confidence booster for the rest of the season. With this new confidence and a strong team, FHS boys basketball prepared for even more wins in the future.
