“Mewgenics” is a video game released on Feb. 10th, 2026, created by Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel. “Mewgenics” is available on PC with a console version in the works.
“Mewgenics” is a really terrific game. For its $30 price, the game offers a unique experience as a roguelike with a spin on roleplay and life simulators. However, it can be expensive for some people, as Edmunds’ previous games were much cheaper, like “The Binding of Isaac,” which was only $5. The game’s price is fair, though, given the amount of high-quality content it offers.
The gameplay for “Mewgenics” is unique and weird. While roguelikes can be very fun, the twist is that the player breeds cats, which could be potentially disturbing. “Mewgenics” offers over 10 character classes for each cat, with about 75 different abilities. Because this is a roguelike game, players will never experience the same game twice. After any battle, a random cat will be leveled up, only making it stronger. However, in any life simulator, cats can die of old age, which is heartbreaking to watch.
The game’s art style is cartoonish and fun, following the art style of Edmunds other games. But it’s important to remember that “Mewgenics” can take a grueling amount of time to complete, with most players spending over 150 hours. Seven days of nonstop playing to beat this game is far more than most video games require.
“Mewgenics” also has an incredibly funny and astonishing soundtrack; whenever a boss appears, there’s a chance that a guy will sing lyrics about the fight, or some other entertaining sound will come out of nowhere. The game offers many songs throughout the experience, adding an extra layer of humor and enjoyment.
Even with many other amazing qualities, the greatest part of the game is being able to pet the cats. Overall, “Mewgenics” is great in every aspect.
